Art, Music & Drama
Creativity is part of everyday learning at Pine Street School, giving students opportunities to express ideas, develop technique, collaborate, perform, and grow in confidence.
The arts are woven into the Pine Street School experience from the early years through Middle School. Students explore ideas through visual art, music, drama, and performance, using different forms to communicate what they think, notice, and imagine. The work grows with them. A Preschool self-portrait might begin with a question about identity, while older students use more complex media, techniques, and performance to explore ideas about themselves, their communities, and the wider world. Across the IB curriculum, students inquire, create, present, and reflect, developing both technical skill and an increasingly individual artistic voice.
Exploring Through Art
Students learn through making, experimenting, and close observation. Drawing, painting, sculpture, photography, digital art, and other media give them different ways to explore ideas and communicate visually.
Finding a Voice
As students grow, their work becomes more intentional. They research ideas, make purposeful choices, experiment with materials and techniques, and reflect on how effectively their work communicates meaning.
Making Music Together
Music gives students opportunities to sing, play instruments, listen closely, and create with others. Ensemble work builds technique and confidence while teaching students how their individual contribution supports a larger group.
Creativity Through Design
Creative work also extends into the Design Lab, where students can build, film, prototype, and refine their ideas using tools such as 3D printers, sewing machines, cameras, and green screens. In Middle School, this connects directly to MYP Design and its process of researching, creating, testing, and improving solutions.
