Phoebe Mihael, a New York City native, holds Masters degrees from New York University in Early Childhood and Elementary Education (2002) and Spanish Language and History (2000). She earned her permanent New York State certification in 2004. Phoebe began her teaching career in the West Village, where she taught for several years. After taking time away from the classroom to raise her three children, she joined Green Ivy Schools in 2016 as a substitute teacher, working across both Pine Street School and Battery Park Montessori. During this period, she also collaborated with the non-profit Globe Smart Kids, co-authoring an English Language Arts curriculum for grades K-2 that aligned One Globe Kids original stories with Common Core standards. In 2023, Phoebe joined the Pine Street School faculty full-time. Fluent in Spanish—a skill acquired during her undergraduate and graduate studies in Madrid—she is able to teach in both English and Spanish. Additionally, she is conversant in Greek. Her husband is Greek and she enjoys spending summers by the sea with her family. It is their second home. Phoebe’s personal history of language learning and cultural immersion closely reflects the Pine Street School’s commitment to global citizenship. She finds great joy in watching young children absorb new languages effortlessly. Outside of the classroom Phoebe enjoys baking, reading and traveling with her family.
